FAQ
-
What is an escape room?
It’s sort of like a movie, except instead of watching it, you’re living it! Working together with the rest of your team, you’ll explore this uniquely themed room and solve puzzles, decipher clues, and try to escape before your time hits zero! An escape room is ideal for corporate team-building, hosting an unforgettable party, or just having a fun night out with family and friends!
-
Why can't I add more people to my reservation? Why is my reservation closed?
Once you make a reservation online, even if it's just for three people, that slot CLOSES to prevent anyone outside of your party from reserving the same time. So when you book, please include everyone in your party. If you need to book separately, don't worry. You can call us at 970-449-9792 during our business hours to add additional members to your party or just bring them along and we can add them before your show time. We can add more people so long as the room limit has not been reached.
-
What are your safety guidelines?
Please read our Safety page for details.
-
How do I book for a corporate event?
Feel free to book directly through our Book It! page, or if you prefer, email us at info@themarkey.com and we will work with you to set up your corporate booking.
-
What if I have more than the maximum amount of players?
If your team is larger than the room capacity, we recommend splitting your group into smaller teams and booking multiple rooms. We can even run both games at the same time for some head-to-head competition. To do this we will need advanced notice to confirm availability. Please contact us with at least 72 hours notice so our staff can set up the booking for you.
-
What should I wear?
There is no specific dress code. If you are playing “Tomb of the Forgotten,” you’ll be exploring an ancient Egyptian tomb, so things may get a little dusty. We recommend at least close-toed shoes for this expedition, and perhaps a talisman to protect against curses. In “Midnight in Wonderland” you may encounter a few tight spaces.
-
Will we be playing in the dark?
Not exactly! Our goal is to make it feel as if you’re living your own movie, and to make that possible, you may experience some lighting (and sound) effects while inside, including moments of dim or flashing lights. If you have any concerns about playing, contact us beforehand or simply talk to your game master. Ultimately, we want to make sure you feel safe and have fun!
-
Do your rooms accommodate people with certain challenges (e.g. mobility, audio, visual, reading, other)?
Our games are designed to provide a challenge and be an immersive experience, but we try to be as accommodating and inclusive as we can for all players. Some aspects of the games can be customized or altered while there are some features we cannot change. If you have any concerns for your team, please reach out to us by phone or email prior to your show or discuss your needs with your game master when you arrive.
Note that our rooms do include some small spaces and low clearance which could be restrictive to some guests. The games can be played fully as long as one player on your team is able to access these spaces.
-
Will we be locked in?
No, you are free to leave the room at any time! However, the clock will continue running, so we highly recommend taking care of all business beforehand so as not to jeopardize your chances of a true escape!
-
When should I arrive?
Please arrive 10 minutes BEFORE your scheduled showtime. This should give you and your team enough time to use the restroom and get briefed before going into the room.
-
What if I arrive late?
Like a movie, our rooms have specific start times and adhere to a tight schedule, so if you arrive late we cannot hold your room! You will still be allowed to play, but your time and your fun will be shortened.
-
Can I bring food?
We ask that food and drinks be finished or put away before playing our rooms, however, if you cannot make it the full hour, you can leave and return to the room at any point. Luckily, we are within walking distance of a ton of great restaurants—Bawarchi Biryanis and Snack Attack, to name a couple—so if you’re hungry afterwards you don’t have to look far!
-
Where can I store my phone and other belongings while playing?
We provide free lockers for your convenience.
-
Where are you located?
We are on the southwest corner of the intersection of Prospect and College, in the far back corner of the parking lot. We share our parking lot with Bawarchi Biryanis, Lime Light Fitness, and Gallipott Salon.
-
Is there a minimum/maximum number of players?
We require a minimum of three (3) tickets per escape. You may play with 1 or 2 players, but you must purchase at least 3 tickets.
Maximum number of people in the Tomb Of The Forgotten is eight (8).
Maximum number of people in the Midnight in Wonderland is six (6).
All escape experiences are private, so you can reserve a time slot for 3 to 8 people. You will not be joined by other groups. -
Do you sell Gift Vouchers?
Yes we do! You can purchase vouchers for 1 to 8 participants, either students or adults on our Gift Cards page. If you want a printed voucher on our Markey stationary, you can purchase your voucher online and contact us and we can make one for you that you can pick up at our location.
-
I told someone I was going and now they want to come too. Can I add them to my group?
So long as your party hasn’t reached our cap of 6 or 8 people, they are welcome to join your group. They are welcome to pay for their ticket upon arrival. Make sure to arrive early to allow time to update your booking. Inform your game master of the change upon arrival.
-
Do I have to share the room, or can I request a private show?
All shows are private only. You will not share the room with anyone outside of your party.
-
Does everyone in my group have to pay together, or can we all pay separately?
Because all of our shows are private, as soon as a booking is made, no one else may make a booking for the same time slot. If there are more people to add to your group who will be paying separately, that can be handled when you arrive. Please arrive early for your show and inform your game master. Payment can also be made over the phone by calling (970) 449-9792 during our business hours.
-
My plans have changed and I can't make my booking! What do I do?
First off, don’t panic! If you are sick, please do not come to The Markey. Simply give us a call, or have someone in your party call The Markey, and we will reschedule you at no additional cost even if you have to drop out at the last minute before showtime. For all other reasons, we request that you let us know as soon as your plans have changed so that we can free up the slot and schedule you for another time. For the time being, rescheduling fees will be waived.
If you need to cancel your booking and are not able to reschedule, we charge a 10% cancellation fee to cover credit card and bank fees. Cancellations can only be accepted with at least 24 hours notice.
No-shows will not be rescheduled or refunded, so please contact us as soon as you are aware of your changing schedule. -
Do I qualify for student price?
If you attend classes, you qualify. It doesn’t matter if it’s at a high school, middle school, CSU (or any other college or university, in state or out of state), FRCC, or any other institution of learning. It doesn’t matter if you’re taking classes in person or online. You qualify! If you are a student, select “Student” when booking.
-
Can children play?
Yes! We love having children participate, just be aware that older children are more likely to enjoy the room, while some younger children may be frightened of the atmospheric lighting and sound/visual effects.
Birthday parties and groups of children are welcome. If any participating child is age 13 or under, we ask that at least one adult purchase a ticket and be present with them in the room during the game. -
What if I want to book for a time that's closed?
We sometimes book escapes by appointment. The cost is a fixed price of $275 per escape, regardless of how many people are in your group. We do not offer discounts for these appointments. If you would like to make a reservation for a time when we are normally closed, please give us a call at 970-449-9792 or email us at info@themarkey.com at least 72 hours in advance, and we will do our best to accommodate you.
-
What if we damage something while we’re in the room(s)?
Our props and puzzles go through a lot! You will not be charged for normal wear and tear or accidentally dropping something. Nor will you be charged if something simply breaks on its own.
If we notice your group using excessive force or willingly disobeying the provided rules at any time, you will receive one warning. If excessive force or disrespect of the space continues, you will be asked to leave, and if your forceful actions result in damage, you will be responsible for our repair/replacement expenses.
